The Graduate Newsletter Issue #1
Each Graduate Newsletter includes handprints, tracing of the handprints with a sequential list of each item discussed in the reading plus commentary by Richard for each reading.   Here is a sample of what he had to say about the three readings in Graduate Newsletter #1.

First Reading: B. S.

This is a very interesting reading. Although trying to be open to the reading, B. S. was having a hard time and I noticed in listening to the tape how I spent almost all the entire session attempting to reach her.

This is not surprising considering the subject matter: "I want more closeness but I am not willing to trust anyone." This was an issue that B. S. did not want to acknowledge. For me, one of the most difficult types of readings is when the readee is closed off and doesn't think they are.

The reading begins with her shut down Mercury fingers (folded over, almost touching her palms) and her widely broken heart line. I tried to move into the subject through a long story that had nothing to do with love relationships, hoping to establish some trust with her as her reader, with limited success as you will no doubt notice. Considering her high set Jupiter finger, perhaps her dignity was threatened.

The blemish on the Mount of Venus barely shows upon the print, but was definitely visible on her palm, although it seemed to have been there a long time and the color had faded into the palm.

By the time the reading was about half way through, it was apparent to me that this was not going to be a normal reading. I wasn't going to be telling her something about her fingers, thumb, major lines, and then her fingerprints. The reading had a life of its own and wouldn't let me off the topic of her heart.

As you will hear, I had some difficulty placing her heart line in any of the four categories, that there are some forks going up to Jupiter that barely show on the print that lead me to discuss her Donna Reed type (curvy / Jupiter) heart response. The print looks more like a long, flat (Michael Caine) type heart, which in retrospect, is probably her dominant response type.

B. S. has a strong Fate line, but a short, curving Saturn finger on her left hand (not apparent from the print) indicating a strong inner sense of duty, but one that does not translate into purpose over time (at least, not on her own behalf). This aspect of her, feeling one way and giving messages very different, is one of the themes of B. S.'s reading. Despite her insistence to the contrary, it was my impression that she never did hear me when I spoke about this.

On the fingerprints, I used the left Jupiter as the dominant theme of the Life Lesson, but I also added in some flavor from the right Mercury because the loop here was squeezed. These two zones together (left Jupiter: personal power, right Mercury: communications in the world, speaking out) came out as her Life Lesson being: "Standing Up For Yourself."

Second Reading: T. S.

T. S. was just the opposite. She was extremely present: body, mind, and spirit. Whereas in B. S.'s reading I discussed only about half a dozen palmistic attributes, T. S.'s hands were loaded with powerful markings that just leaped off (leapt?) her palms. Unfortunately, not all of them leap off the handprint.

T. S.'s dominant marking is her Star of Jupiter. With eight points as opposed to the more common six pointed Star of Jupiter, the marking becomes a "Leader of Leaders" indicator - a very intense formation to have in a pair of hands and one that requires an enormous level of achievement from its owner. With her strong Fate line (which makes its way all the way up to the finger) and long Mercury finger, this is an incredibly powerful pair of hands.

Isn't it surprising (perhaps not when you consider the standard level of irony in this paradoxical universe) that she also has a well-formed Star of Tears (the "Silver Box") in both hands?

As the tape concludes, T. S. is telling me how she is quitting her well established therapy practice because it felt too confining.

Third Reading: M. H.

M. H.'s reading begins with the cross-hatching just below the heart line under Apollo. This is the marking associated with a sense of lack of support for one' creativity, almost always perceived as a lack of spousal support. You'll notice how I change my opinion about this marking (in this pair of hands) as the reading gets near to completion.

M. H. was born with her Mercury fingers wrapped around her Saturn fingers and, therefor, has quite crooked Mercury fingers to this day (not really visible on the handprint). Along with issues of Mercury shut down and lack of trust seen in B. S.'s hands, the curled Mercury (showing manipulated communications, trying to wrap people around your little finger) is one of the more difficult subjects I find in hand reading (although M. H. was nowhere near as resistant as B. S.).

I found the combination of conic hand and conic tips (once again, not visible in the prints; they seem more squarish) with a long, flat head line and yang thumb very interesting. There seem to be two teams on M. H.'s staff: one made up of her head and thumb (the masculine group), and the feminine team headed by her conic shapes and curvy/ Jupiter heart line. It was not surprising, therefor, to find he Life Purpose as personal power, emotional independence, and living out her passions (all left Jupiter themes) and her School as Love (eight loops). But, considering that her Life Lesson is also on Jupiter (right Jupiter having a tented arch), perhaps her strong willed, strong minded self will come in handy.

I always find it interesting when the Life Purpose and the Life Lesson are on the same finger on opposite hands. It is as if they move in and out of their power (in this case) instant by instant. What would happen if she were dealing with an ambition in the world issue (right Jupiter) that also involved a loved one and a power conflict (left Jupiter)?

As a matter of fact, a good part of why M. H. shows up at the Earth University is to find out for herself.
